Make One (Left Slant) 1. On a knit row of your swatch, knit to the point in the row that you want to work the increase. Before knitting the next stitch, gently spread the needles apart. Notice the strand of yam that bridges the gap between these two stitches. 2. Insert the tip of the left needle (not the right needle) from front to back under this "ladder" and lift it onto the left needle. 3. Insert the tip of the right needle through the back of the stitch. 4. Knit the stitch. 5. Slide the new stitch off the needle and knit the rest of the row as usual.

On the side of the seam with the tail (the right piece), run the needle through the center of the first and second stitches, one row in from the edge. Catch the two horizontal bars at the top of each stitch and pull gently to tighten. 8. Continue in this fashion up the length of the seam. 9. At the end of the seam, run in the remainder of the tail by weaving it through the stitches in the seam for at least 2 inches. 10. Cut the yarn close to the base of the last stitch. Running in Ends Once you have sewn up all the seams in your garment, the final step in finishing it will be to turn it inside out and weave all the remaining loose tail ends into seams or through nearby stitches to make sure that they are secured snugly before cutting them.

4. Continue to knit with the new yarn, being careful not to pull the tail through the first stitch. S. After you've knit through four or five stitches in the row, turn the work to the back and fasten the two yarns with a square knot. 6. Pull the ends to secure the knot, then continue knitting the row as usual. Picking Up Dropped Stitches Even experienced knitters sometimes make mistakes. For beginners, the most common problem is "dropping" stitches. A dropped stitch is when a stitch accidentally slips off the needle and it unravels through the rows beneath it.
